United States – Iran tensions: possible regional and global repercussions

The center of recent escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran is in the Middle East region and specifically in Iraq where – in the aftermath of the killing of Genarale Qassem Soleimani and the attack carried out by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps – IRGC against the bases of Ayn al-Asad and Harir – attacks continue to be recorded, albeit of little impact, against targets attributable to US interests.

However, the international position of both contenders and their projection ability at a global level do not exclude that in the short to medium term the persistence of hostility may have repercussions on the security situation also outside the Middle Eastern region.
